Carter (Lot 5)
Sponsor: Carters Steam Fair • Artist: Aaron Stephens
About the lion Carter the lion is painted in the style we paint our galloper horses including real gold leaf (a galloper horse is what you may think as a 'carousel horse', but this is actually an American term- a carousel turns anti clockwise but the British version, 'gallopers', turns clockwise). It is all hand painted as it would have been done when our Galloper ride was new in 1895
About the sponsor Carters Steam Fair are world renowned experts in rescuing and restoring traditional fairground rides and bringing them back to their former glory using traditional signwriting and fairground art techniques. No computers, apps, fancy software or other digital tools were used to transform this lion into its regal glory. You can see more beautiful fairground art and fancy lettering work on display on their fairground rides which tour around Berkshire and London including Maidenhead, Holyport and Englefield Green.
About the artist Carter the lion is being painted by the incredibly talented Aaron Stephens, Carters Steam Fair’s full time Signwriter and fairground artist after completing an apprenticeship with fairground owner Joby Carter and graduating from one of his signwriting courses.
