Circle of Life (Lot 26)
Sponsor: Cala Homes • Artist: Joanna Dewfall
About the lion Circle of Life was inspired by natural stone mosaic to create a lion that could have leapt from an ancient Roman pavement.. The name was derived from the circle or mandala patterns on his back - Circle of Life being a song from The Lion King and also appropriate for Cala Homes, the lion's sponsor, which builds and manages houses for every stage of people's lives from starter to retirement. Materials used include 4 square metres of mosaic tiles, 10 kilos of grout and 6 kilos of cement adhesive. It took seven full days to mosaic and grout. The black and gold tiles were donated by Cala's partner firm Porcelanosa.
About the sponsor CALA Homes, part of the CALA Group, is a major UK home builder focused on building well-designed, high quality homes in prime locations throughout the South of England, the Midlands and Scotland. Alison Deakin, sales and marketing director at CALA Homes (Thames), said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring a lion sculpture and working with fantastic artist Joanna Dewfall, as part of the 2019 Lions of Windsor Sculpture Trail. At CALA, we are always looking for new and creative ways to give back to the communities in which we build and this campaign offers an exciting opportunity for us to help raise money for a number of very worthwhile local charities, whilst be part of an exciting public art trail which can be enjoyed by the local community throughout the summer.”
