George
Sponsor: St George's Ascot • Artist: St George's Ascot

About the lion The two designs that were chosen were the red dragon, which reminds us of the story of St George and the dragon, along with three of our pupils watching a racing horse go by, which reflects our school being located near Ascot racecourse. We are delighted that the racecourse is looking after George and displaying him in pride of place outside the mane entrance!
About the sponsor St George's, Ascot is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 years. We are located approximately 25 miles west of central London on a beautiful, leafy 30 acre site, within walking distance of Ascot High Street. We are a welcoming school with a warm sense of community and visitors often comment on the perceptible supportive and cheerful atmosphere.
About the artist George was created by two sixth form Fine Art students, who came up with two brilliant designs and the Art Department couldn't decide between them, so chose both! The girls did not appreciate when they came up with their designs how long it might take them and they spent many hours decorating him, with some help from the artist in residence as well as the Art teachers.
Where? Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot SL5 7JK. George will be displayed on the grass by Turnstiles East from 0900-1700 each day. On Race Days, George will be displayed in the courtyard of Ascot Durning Library, High St SL5 7JF.
